DelVal Establishes Veterans Center in Honor of Janet Manion

College pledges to provide “aid, comfort, and friendship” for veterans through the Janet Manion Military and Veterans Center

Using a Veterans Day program as the backdrop, Delaware Valley College officials on Monday afternoon announced the formation of a new center for military veterans and their dependents. Named in honor of the late Janet Manion, the center will be a one-stop shop to help veterans transition to civilian life, according to college President Dr. Joseph Brosnan. The center, to be located in Lasker Hall, will be available to veterans, active military and military families, offering information, referrals and support. “Its primary mission will be to enhance the school experience of our military heroes and their dependents,” Brosnan told the audience gathered in the Moumgis Auditorium in the DelVal Student Center.  "Our commitment must be to serve …

DelVal to Dedicate Veterans Center to Janet Manion

Delaware Valley College will unveil plans for a new campus veterans center named after a fierce local advocate for service members.

Janet Manion dedicated her time and talents to supporting military members and veterans. Now, a new veterans center at Delaware Valley College will do the same - and it will bear her name. On Monday, DelVal president Dr. Joseph Brosnan will unveil plans for the Janet Manion Military and Veterans Center, to be housed on the college's campus. Janet Manion, along with her husband Tom, started the Travis Manion Foundation after their son Travis was killed in Iraq in 2007. Based in Doylestown and run by Travis' sister, Ryan Manion Borek, the foundation works nationwide. Local Events Honor Veterans

A ceremony in Newtown and a luncheon in Doylestown are among area Veterans Day events.

Veterans Day Luncheon The Central Bucks Family YMCA in Doylestown will host a Veteran’s Day Luncheon Friday from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Ryan Manion of the Travis Manion Foundation. There will be a performance jazz duo of Lori Rosolowsky and Mike Seifried. Lunch will be served. RSVP to Rachel Mauer at rmauer@cbfymca.org. Veterans Day Ceremony Council Rock High School North and Morell Smith Post 440 will hold a Veterans Day ceremony Friday at 9 a.m. United States Army Brigadier General Peter A. Several area businesses are offering discounts to veterans in honor of Veterans Day.

  Sunday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and several businesses in the area are offering discounts for veterans and people in the military. If you know of other discounts and deals, add them in the comments.   Applebees Veterans and active duty military service members can enjoy a free signature entree during business hours on Sunday, Nov. 11.
