'Her Life Was Short, But It Was Wide'

The Michener Museum is starting a scholarship endowment in honor of 9-year-old budding artist Holly Berry Huyhn, who was killed in a high-speed car crash on Rt. 611 on Nov. 21.

When art teachers at the James A. Michener Art Museum talk about Holly Berry Huynh, their faces light with joy. "She had amazing energy and compassion for her fellow students," her painting teacher, Megan Moyer, said in a statement Monday. "She was a delight – always smiling, always attentive, always collaborating, always inspired," said sculpture teacher Robin Lane. "She was a gifted artist who could master any technique, was open to exploring any process, and always made class fun," said drawing teacher Cara Alderfer.  A budding artist, Holly called the museum her second home. And now, the museum is ensuring her memory never is forgotten. The Michener Museum will present a memorial exhibition of the late 9-year-old's artwork. The show …

Speed Likely a Factor in Second Bypass Crash

Police are still investigating a car crash that closed the Rt. 611 Bypass Saturday and Sunday.

The crash scene, once again, stretched far down the road. The cars, once again, lay demolished and crumpled after their collision. And while police are still investigating the car crash on the Rt. 611 Bypass Saturday night, many who saw the scene Saturday night and Sunday morning immediately began speculating that it was caused, once again, by high speed. Doylestown Township Police on Sunday said initial estimates suggest that the drivers involved in Saturday night's crash were speeding at more than 100 miles an hour, according to Phillyburbs. Saturday's crash comes three months after another high-speed crash that left a little girl dead and her grandmother fighting for her life. The death of 9-year-old Holly Huynh on Nov. 21 stunned the …

Let me tell you about how the police works. A few years ago my inspection had expired and I was returning home from shopping with my kids and husband when I noticed a police car in my rear view mirror flying towards me. So I quickly pulled aside to allow him to pass and get to his emergency when I noticed he was pulling me over. He acted as if I was transporting something illegal and asking …   more ›

Fundraiser Set for Family of Crash Victims

Friends are planning an event in May to raise money to support the Berry family after the devastating Rt. 611 Bypass crash.

Dale Homnick knows what happens to a family when a loved one sustains a traumatic brain injury. Recovery can be long, slow, frustrating - and expensive. So when he found out that the Berry family, with whom he had been friends for years, suddenly found themselves in the same situation, he knew he wanted to help. "It literally could have been anyone," Homnick said, of the Nov. 21 car crash on the Rt. 611 Bypass that killed 9-year-old Holly Huynh and left her grandmother, Suzanne Berry, fighting for her life. "Back in 2007, my brother was in an accident," he continued. "He had a head injury and I know it’s a long process. And even when there is insurance, it doesn't cover everything." So Homnick, who grew up with the Berrys' son, Ron, and …

Police Officer Hailed for Saving Driver's Life

Doylestown officials praised Officer Jessica Whiteside for saving the life of Suzanne Berry after the car crash that killed Berry's granddaughter, Holly Huynh.

It was about 6:45 p.m. on the night before Thanksgiving, and Doylestown police had just been called about a car crash on the Rt. 611 Bypass. Doylestown Borough Police Officer Jessica Whiteside hurried to the scene. When she got there, she found a woman trapped in the driver's seat of a crumpled Honda CRV. The woman wasn't breathing. Whiteside didn't hesitate. A certified emergency medical technician, she crawled into the Honda and worked to establish an airway to help the woman breathe. She succeeded. And she stayed with the injured woman until paramedics from the Central Bucks Ambulance squad arrived and took over. The woman, later identified as Suzanne Berry, 55, of Plumstead, was airlifted to Temple University Hospital where she remains…

Mustang Driver Faces Murder Charge

Bucks County prosecutors say a 37-year-old Plumstead man acted with malice when he caused a high-speed car crash on the Rt. 611 Bypass in Doylestown.

A man who loved speed was rocketing up the Rt. 611 Bypass in Doylestown at at least 142 miles an hour when he slammed his souped-up Mustang Cobra into another car on the night before Thanksgiving, the busiest travel day of the year. That's what Bucks County prosecutors will try to prove when they prosecute that driver, Drew Bodden, 37, for third-degree murder for causing the death of 9-year-old Holly Huynh. "A charge of murder in an auto crash is not particularly common. But then neither are the facts which our investigation have revealed about this horrific act," Bucks County District Attorney Dave Heckler said Thursday during a press conference to announce the charges. "That is the point of this case," Heckler said. "This was a …

DA to Announce Charges in Fatal Crash

Prosecutors and police said they will announce charges against a driver in the crash that killed a 9-year-old girl last month on the Rt. 611 Bypass in Doylestown.

Drew Bodden will be charged in connection with the Thanksgiving Eve crash that killed a 9-year-old Plumstead girl, officials said Wednesday. Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said prosecutors and police will hold a press conference to announce those charges on Thursday. The announcement will take place at the Doylestown Township Police Department on Wells Road at 11 a.m., Heckler said in a statement. Sources close to the investigation said Bodden, 37, is expected to turn himself in to Doylestown Township police by Thursday. Court papers had not yet been filed by early Wednesday afternoon, so it was not clear exactly what charges the driver faces. Bodden, of Plumstead, was driving a Ford Mustang north on the Rt. 611 bypass on the…
