Post Office Ending Saturday Mail Delivery

Packages and prescriptions will still be delivered on Saturday, but not letters, bills or catalogues, according to reports.

Just 10 days after raising postage rates, the United States Postal Service announced today that Saturday mail delivery will cease, effective in August, according to a report from NBC News. The latest cost-cutting measure is projected to save the postal service approximately $2 billion a year, Postmaster General and CEO Patrick Donahue told the Huffington Post. According to a statement released by the U.S. Postal Service, once implemented during August of 2013, mail delivery to street addresses will occur Monday through Friday. Packages will continue to be delivered six days per week. Mail addressed to P.O. boxes will continue to be delivered on Saturdays. Stamp Prices Will Increase in 2013

The U.S. Postal Service is raising the cost of stamps for first class letters by one cent.

It's going to cost a little bit more to mail that letter the next time you go to the post office in Doylestown. The cost of a standard, first class stamp will rise by one penny, from $.45 to $.46, on January 27, 2013, the U.S. Postal Service reports. This will be the second year in a row that the cost of stamps have risen by one cent. The Postal Service urges its customers to purchase Forever Stamps at $.45 cents per stamp before the price change. They will also rise to $.46 on January 27. Once purchased, Forever Stamps can be used indefinitely and will remain applicable for one-ounce letters, even when postage rates rise.
