Doylestown-area community leaders have organized a moment of silence Friday morning to show solidarity with the people of Newtown, Conn. The observance will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, one week after the horrific murders of 20 first-graders and six women at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. As in many communities across the country, the organizers also have asked several area religious institutions to toll their bells 28 times, once for each of the children, the school staff, the shooter and his mother. The local act of recognition is being organized by an informal group of residents called the Doylestown Kindness Council. Interesting statement that someone sent me today: It matters not how many times the bells toll as long as you remember the bell tolls for thee. As John Donne pointed out, we are all involved in humankind, and we should all feel deeply the pain and human anguish that occurred in Newtown.
