Dirty Campaign Tactics Alleged in Buckingham

The election is over, but sentiments still run strong in this township.

Less than 24 hours after Republican Jon Forest was re-elected to a six-year term as Buckingham supervisor, a pair of his detractors took the floor at the board meeting Wednesday night, calling his election tactics “underhanded.” Furlong resident Kevin Corrigan and Forest’s Democratic opponent, Kathy Sugarman, approached Forest during the public comment section of the meeting and lambasted him for “dirty” election material sent out over the weekend that included derisive statements about the Democrats pursuing seats in Buckingham. The flyer was labeled “Occupy Buckingham” and suggested Sugarman and board supervisor and Democrat Henry Rowan were in collusion. It’s a play on the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. Sugarman and Corrigan accused …

Nice to see Forest getting right to work on real issues, eliminating Democracy and blacklisting citizens. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.   more ›

Democrats Win Doylestown Borough, GOP Sweeps Townships and Schools

The Republicans took control of Doylestown Township and the Central Bucks School Board, while the Democrats won one more seat on Borough Council.

Come January, Doylestown Borough will be governed by all Democrats and Doylestown Township by all Republicans. The Central Bucks School Board - all six races - and Buckingham Township supervisor and auditor's race also went to the GOP by a wide margin. In tiny New Britain Borough, Democrat Peter LaMontagne held onto his seat. The results in Doylestown Borough included an important win for the Democrats. Challenger Kevin Kelly upset Republican incumbent Bill Stevens for the two-year seat in Ward 2. "It was the culmination of a lot of hard work, and a lot of teamwork," Kelly said Tuesday, while celebrating in Doylestown. "The bottom line is getting out there talking to people about what's important." Incumbent Democrat Joan Doyle also held …

The results of the supervisor board vote in Doylestown Township will mean having to live with the crumbling, cracked, disintegrating roads in our development. They were "paved" 10 years ago with oil & chip. Pushed though by the Republicans on the board. They should have been run out of town, not re-elected!   more ›

Poll: Too Many Political Signs?

Do candidates' yard signs influence your vote?

Even if you haven't been following local campaigns, the signs the candidates plant in yards and public rights of way probably tipped you off that an election was in the air. They crop up each year around this time, usually in multiples. As soon as one party has staked out its corner, the other party swings by and plants its candidates' signs in front of the first batch. From there, they multiply like rabbits until no intersection or major thoroughfare is untouched. The big question: do they even work. So today, on Election Day, do your civic duty and vote in this (completely unscientific but entertaining nonetheless) poll before you head out to the other poll (-ing place).

The thing with the signs is that the same people responsible for erecting them should also be responsible for removing them in a timely fashion whether or not their candidate was sucessful.   more ›
