Speed Likely a Factor in Second Bypass Crash

Police are still investigating a car crash that closed the Rt. 611 Bypass Saturday and Sunday.

The crash scene, once again, stretched far down the road. The cars, once again, lay demolished and crumpled after their collision. And while police are still investigating the car crash on the Rt. 611 Bypass Saturday night, many who saw the scene Saturday night and Sunday morning immediately began speculating that it was caused, once again, by high speed. Doylestown Township Police on Sunday said initial estimates suggest that the drivers involved in Saturday night's crash were speeding at more than 100 miles an hour, according to Phillyburbs. Saturday's crash comes three months after another high-speed crash that left a little girl dead and her grandmother fighting for her life. The death of 9-year-old Holly Huynh on Nov. 21 stunned the …

Let me tell you about how the police works. A few years ago my inspection had expired and I was returning home from shopping with my kids and husband when I noticed a police car in my rear view mirror flying towards me. So I quickly pulled aside to allow him to pass and get to his emergency when I noticed he was pulling me over. He acted as if I was transporting something illegal and asking …   more ›

EPA to Tackle Doylestown Superfund Site

The former Chem-Fab factory on North Broad Street is contaminated with 18 metals, 19 volatile organic compounds and 10 semi-volatile organic compounds.

As expected, environmental officials will begin removing contaminated soil from Doylestown Borough's Superfund site. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has finalized its plan of action for the former Chem-Fab, Inc. electroplating factory at 300-360 N. Broad St.  Called a Record of Decision, the plan is now available for public review on the EPA's website. The 52-page document outlines how the agency will tackle the property, which has a history of pollution that dates back more than four decades. The EPA plans to excavate about 3,600 tons of contaminated soil, dispose of the soil at an off-site facility, and replace it with clean soil. The excavation will include a large area behind the main warehouse building, which roughly …

Moment of Silence to be Held Friday

Doylestown community leaders have organized a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. on Friday

Doylestown-area community leaders have organized a moment of silence Friday morning to show solidarity with the people of Newtown, Conn. The observance will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, one week after the horrific murders of 20 first-graders and six women at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. As in many communities across the country, the organizers also have asked several area religious institutions to toll their bells 28 times, once for each of the children, the school staff, the shooter and his mother.  The local act of recognition is being organized by an informal group of residents called the Doylestown Kindness Council. Find the group on Facebook at Kindness Council or on twitter at @KindnessCouncil. The group is organizing …

Interesting statement that someone sent me today: It matters not how many times the bells toll as long as you remember the bell tolls for thee. As John Donne pointed out, we are all involved in humankind, and we should all feel deeply the pain and human anguish that occurred in Newtown. But counting bells brings no comfort, no solace to the hearts that were broken on that horrible day. So ring …   more ›

DA to Announce Charges in Fatal Crash

Prosecutors and police said they will announce charges against a driver in the crash that killed a 9-year-old girl last month on the Rt. 611 Bypass in Doylestown.

Drew Bodden will be charged in connection with the Thanksgiving Eve crash that killed a 9-year-old Plumstead girl, officials said Wednesday. Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said prosecutors and police will hold a press conference to announce those charges on Thursday. The announcement will take place at the Doylestown Township Police Department on Wells Road at 11 a.m., Heckler said in a statement. Sources close to the investigation said Bodden, 37, is expected to turn himself in to Doylestown Township police by Thursday. Court papers had not yet been filed by early Wednesday afternoon, so it was not clear exactly what charges the driver faces. Bodden, of Plumstead, was driving a Ford Mustang north on the Rt. 611 bypass on the…

Poll: Will the Route 202 Parkway Do Any Good?

The Route 202 Parkway opens today, but will it do what it was designed to do? Vote in our poll.

The Route 202 Parkway opens today, but the finished road will look very different than the project that was first proposed decades ago. Officials and dignitaries will have their say later, but we want to know what you think. Will the new Parkway - with mostly two lanes, a 40-mile-per-hour speed limit and 10 signalized intersections - do what it was supposed to do? That is, relieve traffic congestion in Central Bucks and eastern Montgomery County? Vote in our poll and let us know what you think.

Thank goodness for Buckingham Twp. and its rancorous and relentless lawsuits. I wish more communities had the balls to try to stop any kind of road. It is laughable that not one comment isn't peppered with cynicism. Perhaps some of the those commenting are the very same people that voted for a parkway now systematically being picked apart. Silly, silly humanity.   more ›

Central Bucks Gets its First Taste of Winter

The first snowfall of the season transformed Doylestown into a winter wonderland.

When it snows, ain't it thrillin' - at least for the first snowfall. Central Bucks County enjoyed its first taste of the 2012-2013 winter on Tuesday with a light accumulation of snow. It was enough to coat tree branches and bushes with a "mantle of white," and in some places, even was thick enough to require shoveling. The white stuff lured kids and adults alike outside to play in, walk in or just take in the wintery wonderland.   Did you snap a pic of the snow? Share it here.

Santa Has Car Trouble

Where's a good reindeer-pulled sleigh when you need one?

Doylestown Patch user Mariann Davies sent us this photo snapped in Doylestown on Sunday. Her sharp-eyed son, C.J. Davies, came across Santa having some car trouble in the Bon Ton parking lot. Rudolph and the team must have had the day off.
