A Jamison man has been charged with burglary in what Doylestown police are saying is the latest case to be closed from a string of burglaries that plagued the area in recent months. William Bainger, 22, of Sunrise Way, Jamison, was arrested on Thursday, March 15, Doylestown Borough police said Wednesday. Police said he was arrested on suspicion of allegedly burglarizing a home on the 200 block of N. Clinton Street on February 22. Bainger allegedly stole numerous pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $15,000 and about $800 cash during the incident, police said. Police are investigating yet another break-in in the Doylestown area.
Doylestown Borough police are investigating yet another incident where a thief or thieves have broken into a home and stolen cash or jewlery. The latest incident happened Wednesday, Feb. 22, sometime between 11:50 a.m. and 4:50 p.m., police said Thursday. A residence on the 200 block of North Clinton Street was hit. Police said entry appears to have been made by forcing open a rear door. Several pieces of jewelry and about $800 in cash was stolen from the residence, police said. It is just the latest in a string of burglaries around Doylestown in recent months. Thieves are knocking on front doors during the day, and if no one answers, they go around back and break in, police chief says.
A Lower Southampton man is in custody after being arrested in connection with an attempted burglary in Doylestown. Robert Russel Masten, 26, of Feasterville is in the Bucks County Prison. Doylestown Borough Police Chief Jim Donnelly said his department arrested Masten Friday, Jan. 13, and turned him over to Lower Southampton police, where he already was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police caught Masten coming out of the back of a property on Crestland Terrace around 1 p.m. on Friday, Donnelly said. Masten had not successfully gotten inside the house, Donnelly said. Police say they tracked him down with the help of a borrowed police dog after an attempted burglary of an office on South Clinton.
Doylestown Borough Police on Thursday arrested a man on suspicion of burglary, saying they tracked him down with a police dog after he tried to break into a borough medical office. John Newman, 24, of Whitehall Drive, Doylestown Township, was arrested Thursday at about 1:20 a.m., police said. Newman faces charges including burglary and criminal trespass. He was arraigned Thursday in District Judge Mark Douple’s court and was committed to the Bucks County Prison on $150,000 bond, according to prison records. Police said Newman tried to use a screwdriver to pry open windows at an orthodontist’s office on South Clinton. Police are investigating six recent burglary attempts but have few leads in the cases.
Downtown Doylestown business owners might want to remove even the petty cash from their shops for awhile, at least until police catch those responsible for recent burglaries. Thieves broke into at least three downtown Doylestown businesses last weekend and tried to break into three more, police said Thursday. One of the offices even was burglarized twice - once last weekend and once on Wednesday, they said. The police are treating the six burglaries as if they are all connected, Chief Jim Donnelly said Thursday.
