A second bus will shorten the wait times for riders in Doylestown.
On Monday, a second Dart bus hit the streets of Doylestown, shortening wait times for riders who use the public transportation service. Having two buses cuts the wait time between stops considerably and improves service dramatically, officials said in announcing the new service. Adding a second bus back to the routes was one of the original requests when the local bus service was suspended back in December 2010. Many Doylestown seniors and disabled residents use the bus to do their shopping and get around town. But when the service was cut two years ago, the wait times between stops made its use impractical for some. Doylestown’s many cultural attractions now will be easier to visit, thanks to a new form of public transportation. A new "cultural loop" bus will shuttle visitors around some of Doylestown's favorite destinations on weekends - and the service will launch in time for the Doylestown Art Festival. The bus will be free and will run every 20 minutes on weekends to connect these cultural sites: The James A. Michener Art Museum, the Mercer Museum and the Bucks County Free Library, Doylestown Branch, as well as the County Theater, Fonthill, the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, and shopping and dining. The Doylestown First Friday committee is starting two new initiatives to try to ease parking headaches during the monthly event. Starting Friday, June 1, the Doylestown DART bus will shuttle First Friday attendees from the county parking garage to the downtown area. It also will stop at two other free public parking lots on the route. First Friday volunteers also will place signs around town directing drivers to the lots that allow free public parking during the event.
