Volunteers are no longer needed to take down Doylestown's snowflake decorations.
A recent call for volunteers to take down Doylestown's winter decorations has been cancelled. Borough public works employees took down the town's snowflake decorations recently, so volunteers are no longer needed. "A big thank you goes to Phil Ehlinger, head of the Public Works department, and his crew for taking down all of the snowflake decorations in town yesterday," said the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance. "They did it during their normal work schedule and the DBCA is very appreciative of their help." The DBCA had called for volunteers to gather Saturday, Feb. 9 to take down the holiday decorations. Doylestown's winter decorations are coming down Saturday, Feb. 9.
Cheer up, fans of sunshine and sangria. When Doylestown's winter snowflake decorations come down, spring can't be too far away. But those snowflakes didn't hang themselves and they won't come down by themselves, either. The Doylestown Business and Community Alliance is looking for volunteers to help take down the decorations on Saturday, Feb. 9. If you can help, meet at State and Main, in front of the downtown Starbucks, at 9 a.m. The easiest way to take down the snowflakes, according to the DBCA, is with an electric drill with a 8mm socket with extension. An electric screwdriver or flat head screwdriver also will work. Volunteers should bring either tool with them on Saturday. Volunteers also will need a 6 foot ladder, though extra …

The new maps replace outdated ones scattered around town.
The Doylestown Business and Community Alliance recently led an effort to replace maps that are scattered throughout the downtown. The maps provide information about Doylestown landmarks, street names and public parking. The new maps include the location of the Bucks County justice center, which is expected to be finished in 2013. The new maps replace outdated and worn ones posted throughout the Doylestown Central Historical and Cultural District Doylestown Rotary gave a $500 grant toward the project, and the DBCA matched that amount. Additional donations came from the Bradley Family Trust, Bucks County Civil War Round Table, Inc., Doylestown Borough Council, Gilmore & Associates, Inc., Memory of Don Stevens (a private donor), Jay Deppeler…

If more volunteers don't step forward, Doylestown Borough's traditional snowflake decorations might not fly. The group that organizes the holiday decorations each winter said Wednesday it hasn't gotten many volunteers to pledge to help hang up the decorations this Saturday. "Please think about coming out to help," Margie Adamsky said Wednesday. Adamsky, office manager for the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance, reached out to group members again this week to try to drum up more help. The DBCA leads efforts to beautify downtown Doylestown for the seasons. In summer, they hang baskets of flowers on the lampposts. In winter, they hang metal-frame, LED snowflakes on the the lampposts. The group needs volunteers to gather in the heart …

Meet this Saturday morning in downtown Doylestown with a drill, if you have one.
Doylestown is about to face a blizzard. No, it's not the nor'easter that is forecast for this week. It's the annual borough holiday decorating effort, led by the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance. The group needs volunteers to gather in the heart of town on Saturday morning and help hoist the town's snowflake decorations into place on the borough's lampposts. Volunteers should meet at State and Main in front of Starbucks at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. If you have an electric drill with an 8mm socket and extension, or an electric screwdriver or a flathead screwdriver, please bring them, along with a 6-foot ladder, if you have one. As usual, coffee and donuts will be provided. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the rain date will be…

The date to remove summer's hanging flower baskets from downtown Doylestown first was moved up, then was cancelled altogether. That's because borough workers beat them to it. The Doylestown Business and Community Alliance had been asking for volunteers to help take down the roughly 200 flower baskets hanging from the antique lampposts in downtown Doylestown. But the end of summer and beginning of fall left the foliage in the baskets dead and withered. Rather than wait for the volunteer effort to be organized, the borough took the baskets down on Thursday, the DBCA said Thursday evening. So the call for volunteers originally planned for Saturday, Oct. 20, then moved up to Saturday, Oct. 13, has been officially cancelled the DBCA. But don't …

Volunteers soon will be needed to close out one of Doylestown's most popular programs of the year: the hanging flower baskets. The baskets are scheduled to be taken down on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance said Thursday. About 200 baskets need to be removed from the lampposts, so the group is looking for a few sets of hands to assist. The job will be done rain or shine; bring rain gear if the weather is threatening Volunteers should meet in front of the Starbucks at State and Main at 9 a.m., where assignments will be handed out. Bring a 6-foot ladder, if you have one, as well as work gloves. The DBCA said it also needs a few "late rising volunteers" to meet at the borough lot, starting at 10:30 a.m…

The group responsible for decorating the borough in its spring finery needs a bit of help. A welcome sign of spring in Doylestown is the return of the flower baskets being hung on the lampposts downtown. But before the baskets can be hung, they first must be planted, and the turnout on Tuesday for the first round of basket planting wasn't as robust as necessary. So Wednesday, the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance renewed its call for volunteers to help plant the flower baskets on: If you can help, meet at Geerlings' Sunlit Farms, 3091 Street Road Warrington. Enter the greenhouses through the barn. Preparing the baskets for planting is a messy job, so organizers ask that volunteers wear clothes and shoes that they don't mind …

The lush, colorful baskets will grace the lampposts in Doylestown once again, but they don't get there by magic.
A welcome sign of spring in Doylestown is the return of the flower baskets being hung on the lampposts downtown. But before the baskets can be hung, they first must be planted, and that takes a whole 'nother round of helping hands. Volunteers are needed to help plant the flower baskets on the following dates: Volunteers will meet at Geerlings' Sunlit Farms, 3091 Street Road Warrington. Enter the greenhouses through the barn. Preparing the baskets for planting is a messy job, so organizers ask that volunteers wear clothes and shoes that they don't mind getting wet and dirty. If you can help, call the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance at (215) 340-9988 or email info@doylestownalliance.org. And save the date for May 19 at 9 a.m. …

Sue, I second your opinion on that the LED snowflake lights dont really fit the vibe/flavor of our quaint town. What makes them look worse is that they are hung on street lights that glow one color while the LED snowflakes glow that odd Blueish color. On another note it sure would be nice to see the street light globes cleaned. I just noticed how dirty they are and if you dont believe me just …   more ›
