Newsweek Names CB Schools Among Top 2,000 High Schools in USA

CB West, CB East and CB South were all ranked in the national poll.

Newsweek has ranked all three Central Bucks high schools among the top 2,000 public high schools in the country. CB West landed at #378, CB East came in at #498 and CB South earned #539. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the Central Bucks high school rankings, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled …

These Shoes are Made for Winning Money

Custom designed shoes created by students from Central Bucks South helped the school place in the top 50 finalists and earn a chance to win $60,000.

Central Bucks High School South art teacher Jessica Fidler had students in her fine arts classes created a line of custom sneakers using shoes donated by Vans Shoes as part of its annual Custom Culture art competition. The students were then responsible for designing and executing four designs based on the following categories: art, music, action sports, and local flavor. The finished products are currently on display in South’s showcase by the main office. The students joined a field of 1,500 other entries and impressed the judges at Vans Shoes enough to make it into the top 50.  The contest now divides the schools into five separate regions, 10 each, and turns the voting over to the community. The public can cast their ballots at this …

CB High Schools Among Top-40 in Pa., Report Says

Central Bucks East, West and South were named in the top-40 Pennsylvania high schools by U.S. News & World Report.

All three Central Bucks high schools have been ranked amongst the top 40 high schools in Pennsylvania by U.S. News & World Report. CB West placed the highest, landing at number 26 (887 nationally), with CB East right behind at 27 (905 nationally). CB South rounded out the trifecta at 33 (1,071 nationally). U.S. News joined forces with the American Institutes for Research, a D.C.-based organization, to evaluate schools on overall student performance on state-mandated assessments, as well as how effectively schools educated their black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged students. Performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams was then used to determine the degree to which schools prepare students for college-…

Do you know what AP tests are (and yes, they are standardized). AP stands for Advanced Placement and they are the hardest courses offered in high schools, meant to be on the level of college courses. Scoring a high grade on the AP test most colleges will accept as credit. AP courses run the gamut from Calculus to American History, from Computer Science to Foreign Languages. It is well beyond '…   more ›

Marching Titans Take Second at Nationals

The CB South marching band came home from a national competition with some impressive hardware.

The CB South marching band has done it again. The Marching Titans took the state championship for the second year in a row recently, then went on to capture second place in a national competition. Their performance at the US Bands National Competition in Annapolis, MD, earned the Titans the highest score the band ever has received, a 95.475. That was good enough to clinch the silver medal in the competition, which was held on Nov. 10. The 96-member strong Central Bucks South marching band bested a field of more than a dozen other competitors to take home the second place award. They also won a special award as the top percussion section of the competition. The week before, the Marching Titans became the state champions for their division …

CB South Marching Band Ready for Weekend Showcase

Seven bands will take the field at the Warrington high school for the 8th Annual Sights and Sounds Competition.

High school and stress go together like the SATs and analogies. The pressure of studying for good grades, finishing the big class project and balancing the schedule of sports and extra-curriculars with a social life can quickly build up. That horrible feeling that all the responsibilities are too much to handle is just as bad as that feeling of relief is good when everything works out.  It's the perfect theme for the program Central Bucks High School South Band Director Michael Robinson has put together this year for the high school's championship-winning marching band. "It's all about that catharsis," said Robinson. "The first part is tension-based, with a lot of energy and intensity. The middle part becomes peaceful and serene, with a …
