Jewelry Thefts Escalating in Doylestown

The recent theft of jewelry from a home on East Street is the latest in a string of burglaries to homes and jewelers in recent months, police said.

A recent burglary of a home on Doylestown's East Street is the latest in a string of jewelry thefts around town, police said Thursday. It's also part of a recent crime trend that has been seen in other parts of Bucks County. "There've been quite a few jewelry thefts, and there’ve been quite a few jewelry stores hit lately," Doylestown Police Lt. Pat Penecale said Thursday. "It’s been pretty prevalent." In August, jewelry worth more than $3,700 was reported missing from a home on Penn Street. Last month, about $4,600 worth of jewelry was stolen from Antiques in Doylestown. In another incident, someone tried to break into Carroll's Jewelers but was unable to get into the building. The latest theft happened on Friday, Sept. 28 sometime …

Police Arrest Homeless Man on Warrant

Police said he had been living in a tent along the Neshaminy Creek for about a month.

Doylestown Township police this week arrested a homeless man they say had been living in a tent along the Neshaminy Creek in the area of the 1700 block of South Easton Road, they said Sunday. Roy A. Smith, 50, of no fixed abode, was arrested on a warrant out of Camdem County, NJ, Doylestown Township Police Chief Stephen White said. Police stopped Smith on Wednesday, Nov. 23, around 7:40 a.m. When they checked his identification, they found he was wanted by the Camden County prosecutors office for failure to appear on a burglary charge. Smith had been living in the Doylestown Township area for about 30 days, police said their investigation discovered.   He was arrested as a fugitive from justice and arraigned before District Judge Maggie …

Doylestown Township Man Awakened By Burglar

Two men broke into a home on East Swamp Road last night, waking up the homeowner, who chased them out.

UPDATED A brazen, middle-of-the night break-in has Doylestown Township police pleading for residents to keep an eye out for strange people in their neighborhoods, especially at night. "People will know what is appropriate for their neighborhood, and if they see anything that makes the hair on the back of their head stand up, we want them to call us," Police Chief Stephen White said Wednesday. "I don't care if they call the police department 10 times a day. I want them to call." Last night, about 12:35 a.m., a man who lives on Route 313 near York Road called the police to report that two men had broken into his home. The burglars woke up the man and his wife, White said, when they began prowling through the second floor of the home, opening…

Thief Breaks into two Doylestown Township Homes

The thief or thieves might have gotten in through unlocked doors while residents were home.

Someone broke into two Doylestown Township homes overnight this weekend while the families were home, stealing money and credit cards, then escaping. The thief probably got into both houses through unlocked doors, Doylestown Township Police Chief Stephen White said Monday. He reminded all area residents to lock all their doors - including the door to the garage, which he called "the weakest point" in most homes. "People unfortunately make the assumption that we're in Doylestown Township, nothing's going to happen," White said. "That's just not the case." Both burglaries reportedly occurred late Friday night or early Saturday morning and were reported on Saturday, White said. Residents of the 100 block of Pine Mill Circle reported a …
