Farmers Markets Now Open at PA Turnpike Plazas

Farmers markets are now open at three Pennsylvania Turnpike service plazas.

Farmers markets are sprouting up in big cities and small towns across America. The popularity of locally-grown food has prompted the Pennsylvania Turnpike to establish farmers markets at three service plazas.

The plaza farmers markets, open Friday through Monday until Nov. 30, are currently located at the Allentown Service Plaza in Lehigh County, Sideling Hill Service Plaza in Fulton County and New Stanton Service Plaza in Westmoreland County.

Markets open at 10 a.m. on Saturdays, Mondays and holiday weekends, and 11 a.m. on Fridays and Sundays. The markets close at dusk.

“The Pennsylvania Turnpike passes through some of Pennsylvania’s most productive agricultural lands,” said Agriculture Secretary George Greig. “Whether you taking a road trip or on your commute, pick up a local, healthy snack.”

Farmers who want to sell products at the service plaza farmers markets should contact Samantha Snyder atsamasnyder@pa.gov or call 717-772-1429.
