Youth Fishing Day Fast Approaching

The beloved Doylestown community tradition continues this weekend.

One of Doylestown's favorite days of the year comes this weekend, and there's a chance the weather just might be nice, for once.

This Saturday is Youth Fishing Day at the Doylestown Borough Dam in Fanny Chapman Park. The free community event is a favorite among kids and parents alike, many of whom grew up fishing in the pond with their own parents back in the day.

As a bonus this year, weather.com is predicting the weather on Saturday will be partly cloudy (which means partly sunny, right?) and 60 degrees.

The fishing starts at 8 a.m., and the fun is free, but for kids only, please. Hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas also will be served free of charge, thanks to the sponsors and volunteers who make it all happen.

The Friends of the Borough Dam will stock the pond with fish at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28. Signs will then be posted warning everyone not to fish before Saturday.

It takes money to keep this program running, so the Friends need your support.

A raffle will be held on Fishing Day, borough manager John Davis said Monday. First prize is a 50-inch Panasonic Smart TV. Second prize is a Wii game system. Third prize is a youth fishing outfit with rod, reel, net and tackle box.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25.

Tickets may be purchased the day of the event, by calling 215-340-9344 or 215-348-8990, or by mail. Send a check to Friends of the Borough Dam c/o , 396 N. Main St., Doylestown PA 18901.

You can also stop into Mt. Lake.

Volunteers are needed, too, to make the day run smoothly. Just show up on Saturday ready to help.
