Middle School Relay for Life Raises $223K for Cancer Society

The 10th annual Relay for Life of Central Bucks Middle Schools, which was held Saturday, raised $223,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Central Bucks middle school students raised $223,000 for the American Cancer Society during a Relay for Life event that was held Saturday at Tohickon Middle School.

“We had over 5,000 students and adults in attendance and raised over $223,000—a great accomplishment and more money than last year,” District Relay For Life Chairman Bill Senavaitis told Patch in an email.

Since it started in 2004, the annual Central Bucks Middle Schools Relay for Life has raised $2.3 million for the American Cancer Society.

“I am confident that no other district in the country can boast 10 year donations to the American Cancer Society surpassing 2.3 million dollars,” Jennifer Sabo, the manager of income development for the East Central Division of the American Cancer Society, wrote to race participants in an email announcing the totals.

This year's Relay for Life fundraising surpassed the 2012 total, which was was $215,000.

“I’m proud of the tradition we’ve created to give kids an outlet to fight back against a disease that impacts so many people. Thousands of people in the Central Bucks community support our students and their endeavors, and I’m very thankful for that,” Senavaitis said.

Next year’s Relay for Life event will be held on May 17, Senavaitis noted.
