Michener Art Museum Honors Outstanding Volunteers

The four were among more than 40 volunteers praised for their help through the years.

The James A. Michener Art Museum honored four outstanding volunteers at its 18th annual Volunteer Recognition Award Ceremony on Tuesday, April 24.

The event celebrates the dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who continually support the museum’s mission of educating the community to develop a lifelong involvement in the arts. The ceremony was held in the museum’s newly dedicated Edgar N. Putman Event Pavilion.

“We are very fortunate to have a strong and dedicated group of volunteers who have given the museum over 12,000 hours during 2011,” says Michener Director/CEO Bruce Katsiff.  “Based on the latest national value, this translates into more than $250,000. Our volunteers are one of the largest contributors to the Michener Art Museum. Aside from the monetary contribution, Michener volunteers give much more through their enthusiastic love of the region’s art.”

Chosen from a pool of dozens of nominees and selected by the Michener Volunteer Council, the 2011 Ann Silverman award recipients are:

In presenting the awards, Jeffra Silverman Nandan, daughter of the late Ann Silverman, spoke about her mother's passion for volunteering throughout her life.

Katsiff reflected on the philanthropic efforts of Ann Silverman, not only as a generous supporter of the volunteer program at the Michener Art Museum, but in the Doylestown community at large.

Michener volunteers are the heart of the organization and reflect the sprit of what it does.

They can be found in every aspect of the museum: in the archives, the library, the galleries, the front desk and gift shop; and behind the scenes in the membership, education and duratorial departments.

They also help during Jazz Nights, Education Gallery openings, and Sponsor and Member exhibition opening receptions.
