Buckingham Soccer Coach Wins Award

The Positive Coaching Award was started by a Chalfont family in conjunction with CB Cares.

The coach of a Buckingham youth soccer team has been chosen to receive the first ever CB Cares Positive Coaching Award.

Bryan Rosica has coached the Buckingham Blast Boys U12 soccer team for the past four years. He was nominated for the new honor by four separate parents of his players.

Each nomination personally touched upon Bryan’s commitment to leadership on and off the field. One of Coach Rosica’s favorite sayings is quoted in one particular nomination: "We lose like gentlemen and we win like gentlemen."

The award was presented earlier this month during June’s First Friday event in Doylestown.

An engraved plaque and $500 check was presented to Rosica with his players, team parents and family in attendance. Bryan’s father, who coached him when he was younger and stills assists with the Blast’s coaching efforts, also was there.

Upon accepting his recognition Rosica said, "I share this award with my soccer family, each and everyone, of you but NOT the check!" (A good sense of humor is also another quality for being a great coach.)

The coaching award was started by the Jones family of Chalfont, Larry, Lucy, Tyler, Wyatt and Ginny. They wanted to fund a yearly recognition of a coach exemplifying positive coaching--putting emphasis on the health and well-being of the child, serving as a positive role model, and having a positive influence in the lives of young people. They partnered with the community group CB Cares to start the award.

Rosica was recognized for teaching positive life lessons through sports, providing leadership, and promoting sportsmanship, fair play, motivation and respect. All of Coach Rosica’s values are consistent with the 40 Developmental Assets, the framework of CB Cares’ programs, and criteria for this award.

Nominations for next year’s Positive Coaching Award with be accepted beginning September 2012. To learn more about the criteria visit cb-cares.org.
