Big-Scoring Del Val Player Named Player of the Week

Bollinger broke a record and earned a Freedom Conference honor with Saturday's performance.

Coming off his record-breaking, 50-point performance on Saturday, Delaware Valley College sophomore guard Nathan Bollinger (Hellam, PA/Eastern York) has been named the Freedom Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Bollinger averaged 27.7 points and four assists in a 2-1 week for the Aggies. He opened with 17 points and five assists in a non-conference win over Berkeley College and followed with 16 points and two helpers in a road loss at Freedom foe FDU-Florham.

However, it was the home contest against conference front-runner Wilkes University on January 28 where Bollinger shined the brightest. He hit 15 of 26 shots from the field, including a 6-for-13 showing from 3-point land. He was also 14-for-16 for the foul line as his 50 points broke the previous school mark of 44 (Joe Butts versus Muhlenberg in 1989) and tied for the fifth-highest, single-game total in MAC (Commonwealth Conference and Freedom Conference history).

Eighteen of his 50 points came in the last minute of regulation and overtime, including a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining to send the game to the extra session. Delaware Valley, which was down seven with 22 seconds left in regulation, went to win the contest, 95-85.

Bollinger leads the team with 18 points and 2.6 assists per game. Delaware Valley (4-15, 1-7 Freedom) will hit the road to DeSales University on Wednesday, February 1 (3:00 p.m.).
