Should Central Bucks Serve Coffee in Schools?

One local parent says no.

Should high school students be served coffee at school?

That was one question posted by Leslie Carson, a Central Bucks West parent who spoke at the school board meeting Wednesdsay to advocate for healthier food choices at the district’s schools.

“Why are we selling premium coffee to 15, 16, and 17 year olds for a profit? Our own school nurses have big signs in their offices about the dangers of caffeine on growing bodies, how it aggravates stress and anxiety, is very addictive, and interacts with many medications,” Carson said as she addressed the board about her overall concerns regarding food choices in district cafeterias.

Her comments, reported on the Facebook page of watchdog group Central Bucks Engage, garnered considerable interest. “Can’t believe they are selling coffee,” wrote one commenter.

Many other commenters weighed in on their desire to boycott the food sold in district cafeterias, which are operated by Aramark.
