Dozens of people were unable to get into the school board meeting room during the Feb. 28 meeting, because it already was filled to capacity. Public comment from more than 60 people went on for more than two hours.

The parents, students and teachers had flocked to the meeting en masse to protest changes to the middle school schedule that would reduce the number of electives middle school students would be able to take, as well as allow them to opt out of some electives.

In the two weeks since then, the school district revamped the proposal to return to the A/B alternating day schedule and to require students to take the special subject areas.

A spokesman for the state Department of Education has said the district's first plan does not appear to meet state requirements.

The agenda for Tuesday's meeting also indicates that the Superintendent's Report, from Dr. N. Robert Laws, will be devoted to the middle school schedule changes.
