Green Sought 'Inappropriate' Reimbursements, Board Member Says

One Central Bucks School Board member is taking issue with Rodney Green's reimbursement requests, including unusually high mileage and $115 for wine glass rental.

Rodney Green may be gone but he’s not forgotten.

Three weeks after the Central Bucks School District agreed upon a $365,000 separation agreement with the former superintendent, some board members are questioning a series of expenditures filed by Green before his departure.

Two checks issued to Green in June reimbursed him more than $605 for recent trips to and from district schools for various functions, like graduations, sporting events and more.

And school board member Tyler Tomlinson said during Tuesday's meeting that he finds it “inappropriate.”

Tomlinson said board members attend similar school functions and do not submit for reimbursement. “I found it unusual to say the least,” Tomlinson said, adding that he would like a stop payment on the checks if they have yet to be cashed.

Tomlinson said he found it troubling that Green would submit for mileage from his home in Buckingham to school board meetings and football games.

On graduation day, Green submitted a request to be reimbursed for 25.6 miles for his travel from the district’s three high schools, Tomlinson said.

“In April, Dr. Green was recognized at DelVal,” Tomlinson said, adding members of the board attended a ceremony in recognition of Green at the college. “He submitted for eight miles driving from here to DelVal to be recognized.”

Tomlinson noted Green has a history of submitting what he believes are inappropriate requests for reimbursement, including a $115 receipt to cover wine glass rental for a holiday party hosted at Green's private residence.

David Weitzel, who was appointed earlier that evening as acting superintendent, said district policy allows employees to seek mileage reimbursement for work-related activities.

But, he said, the number of trips taken by Green was “highly unusual.”
