Central Bucks Shuffles Elementary School Principals

With three longtime administrators retiring, board appoints in-house replacements.

For the first time in awhile, complaints about changes to the middle school schedule and discussion about the budget took a backseat to other matters at Tuesday night's Central Bucks School Board meeting.

While those items did come up briefly during public comment, the board spent most of the evening hearing about the program at the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, recognizing Butler Elementary teacher Kim Lynch for earning National Board Certification, and approving routine motions.

Among those motions was a long list of personnel items, including the appointments of three new elementary school principals due to the impending retirements of Carol E. Robinson (Titus), Lois A. Benton (Jamison), and Leonard H. Schwartz (Mill Creek).

Stephen P. Cashman, the assistant principal at Holicong, will take over at Titus. His salary will increase from $108,576 to $112,000.

Matthew D. Croyle, the assistant principal at Bridge Valley, will take over at Jamison. His salary will increase from $105,218 to $112,000.

Shawn Ortman, the principal at Cold Spring, will take over at Mill Creek, while Brian Finger, the principal at Gayman, will replace Ortman at Cold Spring. Their salaries will remain the same because they are lateral moves.

Finally, Michael Testani, the assistant principal at Mill Creek, will became principal of Gayman. His salary will increase from $99,581 to $109,000.

Board member Geri McMullin said she was pleased to see "so much home-grown talent" available to step into the principal positions. She said the administrators received excellent on-the-job training to prepare them to lead their own schools.

"I'm excited to see what they can do," she said.
