Central Bucks School Board to Consider Calendar for 2014-15

If the calendar is approved as proposed, the first day of the next school year will be Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The Central Bucks School Board will consider adoption of a calendar for the 2014-2015 school year during a meeting Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Bucks Educational Services Center, 16 Welden Dr.

If the calendar is approved as proposed, the first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 2. Winter break is scheduled to begin Dec. 24. Classes are scheduled to resume Jan. 5, 2015.

The last day of school for students is scheduled for June 16, 2015. There are no snow days built into the calendar, according to a document summary. Instead, days will be added as needed depending on snow conditions.

Usually the planned school year is 184-185 days and includes several 'snow days' or so they say. Then January comes & we get a snow day and the school district ADDS a day to the end of the school year. So where were those 'built in' snow days when you need them? If I remember correctly PA requires 180 school days. Why does Central Bucks always extend the last day of school for snow days when snow days are already included in the school calendar? Secondly, why do the kids have off for no reason on certain days? Next Monday is Martin Luther King Day, ok so we've decided the kids get off for that, but the following Monday is a day off too. For WHAT? Actually, no reason, just a planned day off. After having several inclement weather days this year already I think the kids should be going to school Monday 1/27 and keep the last day of school where it is. More thought should be given to why we choose certain days off. Case in point, Good Friday, kids get off the day before and the day after Good Friday but why are Thursday and Monday off school. They're not holidays are they? I am always amazed that friends' kids start school the last full week of August every year, get a week for Christmas and a week for spring break but are finished the school year the third week in May. I think it has to do with one day off hear and one day off there which adds up. Why does CB end the school year so late?
