Central Bucks Realigns Voting Districts

Voters may be in different school district voting regions for next year's local elections.

When Central Bucks residents head to the polls next year, some will be voting in different school district regions.

The Central Bucks School Board recently approved a plan that realigned the boundaries of each of its nine regions. Each region is supposed to be roughly equal in population; to achieve that balance, the regions are redrawn after every federal census, solicitor Jeff Garton told the board.

Garton and superintendent Dr. N. Robert Laws drew up the new region's boundaries, an effort which board members praised.

"I give Dr. laws and Mr. Garton a lot of credit for getting this together," said Geri McMullin, the board vice president, who has been through two other realignments in her nearly 30 years on the board. "This is actually probably the most equal proposal I’ve seen.

"You’re also trying to keep your schools in those nine voting regions," McMullin said. "You’re dealing with so many variables, it’s just really a difficult job. I commend you for getting it done."

Garton said the next step is to file the plan with the county court, where a judge will review it. He said the district expects the court to review the matter some time in August or September.
