CB Superintendent Goes Ape

Dr. Rodney Green donned a furry costume to surprise some Central Bucks students.

They sat on the floor of their classroom, staring at the furry ape in the chair.

The "ape" was reading "The Escape of Marvin the Ape," about an ape who escapes from a zoo. But the kids had no idea who was inside the costume.

Michelle Blair invites all kinds of special visitors into her Kutz Elementary classroom to be a "mystery reader" and get her first grade students excited about reading. Part of the fun is that the kids don't know who is reading to them.

"The kids had a great time trying to guess who was behind the costume," Blair said.

When "Marvin" took off his head, the kids were astounded to see the new superintendent of their school district, Dr. Rodney Green, inside the ape costume.

"The kids will never forget this," Blair said, thanking Green for his visit.

Green started work on Oct. 1 and has been making the rounds, visiting the district's 23 schools and meetings students, teachers, staff and parents.
