BCCC Upgrading Library
The first floor renovations are done and contractors are now working on the second floor.
On Thursday, administrators packed library to explore the first level of the facility, which was completely overhauled for the first time in nearly 40 years.
"The students are loving it," said Linda McCann, director of library services.
The new library houses the school's virtual campus team, library circulation and reference desks, tutoring center, and media and instructional design lab. It was planned to foster collaboration between students and staff, according to Dean of Learning Resources Maureen McCreadie.

Contractors now are working to complete the library's second floor, which contains nearly 140,000 books and is expected to be finished in the next several months.
The upper level contained many desktop computers, which are temorarily set up in the former tutoring center on the first floor of the library building, McCreadie said.

When finished, the second level will combine the school's many help desks into one area, making it easier for students to get the instructions they need.
When designing the library, confortable and mobile "flex" furniture was used. Studies cited by McCreadie show that this flex design is more conducive to effective learning.
The library isn't the only place on campus being upgraded. The and the "HUB" portion of the school also is being expanded.
