SOME NEW TITLES AT DOYLESTOWN LIBRARY

Here are just a few of the new books available from the Doylestown Library:

The Astronaut Wives Club: A True Story / Lily Koppel

As the country raced to land a man on the moon, the wives of the seven Mercury astronauts were thrust into a role they hadn’t bargained for. Overnight they, and their children, became American royalty.  A look back to an extraordinarily exciting time in our history that goes inside the carefully orchestrated story we all saw on our television screens. Cinnamon and Gunpowder / Eli Brown

An off-beat novel just right for summer reading, fascinating and a quick read.  An inventive English chef is kidnapped and forced aboard a pirate ship captained by a lovely, fiery female captain. Lively word play and great characterizations keep the pages turning. In a twist on the One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, in order to keep his berth and life, the chef is charged with preparing a weekly Sunday gourmet meal using only the questionable provisions the crew can buy or more likely, purloin. If he fails, the plank awaits him. Chef Wedgwood unwillingly becomes party to the skirmishes against a vengeful privateer and the heists of British ships stuffed with spoils of the opium and tea trades that dominated the early 19th century.

Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns / Lauren Weisberger

They’re back! Our heroine Andy Sachs, former assistant to the vicious Miranda Priestly, editor of Runway magazine, is now editor of her own wildly successful bridal magazine. Andy is about to marry Max, whose social climbing mother is almost interchangeable with Priestly.  Andy’s partner wants to sell the magazine to the company that owns Runway, which would put Andy back in Priestly’s clutches. Andy’s character drives the book and it’s a rollocking good summer read.

The Widow Waltz / Sally Koslow

If you like Elizabeth Berg and Anna Quindlen, give this title a try. Georgia finds herself shattered and penniless after the sudden death of her high powered attorney husband. She finds their idyllic life was based on lies. She rallies herself to pursue a new relationship and support her two daughters, who discover hidden talents that help them to meet previously avoided responsibilities. Their lives at Stanford and in Paris subsidized by the bank of Mom and Dad are over. The book explores the relationships between mothers and daughters, siblings, skittish lovers and bitter rivals as they discover the power of healing and forgiveness while answering the question, “What is family?”

The Silent Wife / A.S.A. Harrison

Better than Gone Girl? Some reviewers say , “Yes!” A debut title with chapters told in alternating ‘he’ and ‘she’ voices, it’s the story of a marriage gone wrong…very wrong. Jodi has led an opulent and orderly life for the last twenty years with Todd. She considers herself to be the understanding, flexible partner who deals with Todd’s indiscretionsdoing things like cooking him his favorite foods to remind him how lucky he is to have a stable home life. Enter Natasha, the daughter of a friend, all grown up, no longer the gangly teenager. Natasha is determined that Todd will leave Jodi, and Jodi is equally determined that he will not.  Jodi’s not ready to roll over and play dead; as a matter of fact, she’s sure that someone else may meet that fate. A psychological thriller par excellence.

An interesting list - sounds like something for every taste
