I’m More Like The Lion Trainer Than I Realized…and Not The Way You Think!

Paul and I took the kids to the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus!! We go every year! I absolutely LOVE the circus! For me, it really is the greatest show on earth!

We had a total blast watching the performances! The kids were jumping out of their seats with excitement. For the entire rest of the weekend, Paul and I delighted in hearing Jake and Grace talk about all their “favorite parts” and retell it to each other with so much excitement! It’s a wonderful family experience and one that we treasure!

I realized something different this year, I realized WHY I love the circus SOOOO much. For me, it’s truly one of the most amazing experiences in the world to watch someone do exactly what they are meant to be doing, what makes their heart sing, their unique brilliance and gift in the world! That is one of life’s pleasures…to witness someone having that human experience is magical.

I’m blessed to experience that in people often, because of the company we choose to keep, we hang out with a lot of amazing people who are living their purpose and taking their gifts out into the world! It’s amazing!

But there’s something different and even more brilliant and unique about the circus that I don’t get to experience too many other places.  I absolutely LOVE to watch the faces of the performers as they do their acts and watch the total joy on their face as they perform. They have SO much joy, excitement and pride.

It inspires me to watch them perform.

Here’s a person who is living their purpose and every day they get to do exactly what they love to do most in the world in front of thousands and thousands of people every year….and what they love most to do in the world is ride a motorcycle, with 7 other motorcycles inside a globe-sized steel cage. Or what they love to do most in the world is jump through a ring 10 feet off the ground.

Can you even IMAGINE the struggle that special person must have gone through to get here! The amount of practice and dedication to cultivate these amazing feats. I don’t know much about this stuff, but I would imagine it takes as much practice and dedication as high performance athletes are required to do to reach levels like that in their field.

But circus performers have something even more special than high performance athletes. Most people would ENCOURAGE someone who wanted to play football as a kid. Most people would sign their kid up for soccer or swim if that’s what he or she wanted. Most people would be thrilled to see their son or daughter go to a major university on a baseball scholarship.

But how many people do you know would ENCOURAGE someone to spend 40 or 50 hours a week practicing how to stack 20 people onto one bicycle and ride in a circle?

These performers in the circus aren’t just incredible at WHAT THEY DO. To me, their ability to make a living, doing THAT unique brilliance and get the opportunity to spend every day doing what they love and what they are called to do….demonstrates that they are incredible at WHO THEY ARE!

Not only have they demonstrated the powerful mindset, determination and skill to be that good of a performer, but they have created their life by design. They have created a life where they can spend all their time doing the thing they love most in the world because they did what it took to find a way to serve others doing it and make a living doing it.

Can you imagine how many amazing PERFORMERS right now are actually delivering furniture, working behind the counter at the doctor’s office…even trading stocks on the trading floor on wall street??!!

So when I watch these amazing performers, who made it into the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, I’m entertained…but also inspired, amazed and moved at who these people are.

They are living their dream! And they found a way to get paid to do it, so they can do it every day of the year (not just on weekends and evenings).

I remember years ago, when I was working in corporate and coaching clients “on the side.” I would go out for a run through my neighborhood and just visualize and pray that one day I would figure out a way to spend my entire day, every day, doing what I’m called to do, living my purpose and doing what I love most in the world!

Back then I never would have even imagined that there was a way that I could “monetize” what I love to do most…not enough to provide the financial resources that my family needed.

I just assumed that I needed to do what I did “professionally” for corporate to make a decent income….and do my “passion” (coaching and serving people) “on the side.”

Then I met an amazing coach and mentor who changed all that, and she even had an event called “Monetize Your Message!” And I have! And it’s NOT about the money. Like the circus performer, getting paid to do this, just allows us to do what we are called to do every day, all day! Ironically, like the lion tamer, coaching, teaching and serving people is the thing that I would do all day long for free if I could!

Monetizing my message allows me to have every day be my own Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus!

I’m the lady riding that magnificent elephant….and thank the lord, I get paid to do it, so I can spend all my days in bliss doing what I love most and what I was put here to do!

So the circus truly is the greatest show on earth for me. And now I understand why! Like the guy who flips into the air while “riding” on his horse at high speeds, there was a time in my life when I thought that what I loved to do was a “dream” and not a real job….and now I GET to live my dream every day.

Whatever it is that you want to do, find a mentor, someone who’s doing it already, who’s teaching others to do it….learn from them, model them, watch them, read their books, travel with them, go to their events.

Whatever your dream is….let me be the first to say that it is NOT ridiculous! And I BET you, there is a WAY for you to do it all day every day and still provide for your family! Who knew there was such an event as Monetize Your Message! It’s possible, it’s real and you can do it too!
