Bob C. shares his story of recovery

Before Bob C. got sober, he had reached a point in his life where he would drink any kind of alcohol or use any drug available. Today he’s in active recovery and sharing his story with others who are trying to stay clean and sober or maybe just thinking about giving up drugs or alcohol. He’ll be one of the speakers at PRO-ACT’s next Expanding Your Recovery Toolkit workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the offices of The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc., 252 West Swamp Rd., Unit 12, in Doylestown.

Launched in late 2011, the free monthly program draws from 30 to 50 people, who come to hear others share their stories and to participate in group discussions on a variety of topics. This month, they’ll talk about the effects of heroin on a user’s life. The program is geared to those in recovery, especially early recovery, and friends and family of people with substance abuse problems. It also draws individuals who work in the treatment and recovery support services fields.

Another presenter this month will talk about the importance of support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, to those in recovery. The program also includes information on free recovery support services available in the community.
