Traffic Issues in Buckingham

Supervisors discussed potholes, speed signs and more at their recent bimonthly meeting.

Buckingham supervisors discussed traffic issues in the township at a recent meeting.

Crosswalks, speed signs and a “rim bender” pothole were the topics.

During the public comment section of the meeting, resident Sam Losorelli asked if PennDOT was planning to install a crosswalk on Cold Spring Creamery Road on the west side of the Hearthstone development.

With the completion of the bike and walking path along that well-traveled roadway, more people are crossing the street at unmarked locations, he said.

A popular unmarked crossing seems to be near the driveway entrance to one of the township’s wells located by the Hearthstone community.

Losorelli asked if it’s possible that signs could be erected there notifying motorists that people are crossing.

Township engineer Dan Gray said he, too, noticed more people  crossing Cold Spring Creamery Road since the pedestrian path has been finished. He said there are curb impressions at the communities of Cold Spring Hunt and Hearthstone, but no crossing marks. He suggested taking those curb units out and moving them to West Brandon Way, which is near the affected site.

Supervisors said they would look into the matter.

Supervisor Henry Rowan was baffled by what seems to be a new speed sign erected on Route 413 between Mechanicsville and Cold Spring Creamery Road.

The sign says “End 45 MPH Speed Limit,” he said.

When traveling through Mechanicsville, it’s 35 mph, he said, so by reading that sign as you head toward Plumstead Township, does that mean the speed limit is 55 mph, he questioned.

Police chief Steven Daniels said if the road is not posted, 55 mph is the speed limit.

“It just seems counter-intuitive to the neighborhood and township to control traffic speed in that area,” he said. “It just doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.”

Another resident brought to light a pothole – a “rim bender,” he said – that is on Route 413 near the entrance to Baci Ristorante.

Township Manager Dana Cozza said she would notify PennDOT of both issues.

In other business, supervisors released escrow monies for the Phillip Tract (Surrey Hill) in the amount of $186,929.12 and Doylestown Airport in the amount of $444,145.73 for the east ramp development project and a change order for an infiltration pond.

Supervisors also waived permit fees for Lingohocken Volunteer Fire Co. to erect a shed to house an emergency generator.

They also approved wastewater grinder pump maintenance agreements with Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Prieto for a sewage grinder pump system located at 2894 Snake Hill Road and another at 5095 York Road – a new nursery structure located across from Bountiful Acres.

Additionally, supervisors canceled their Aug. 10 meeting. The next scheduled meeting is Aug. 24.
