"The State Of Our Union Will Always Be Strong"

What did you think of the president's address?

Millionaires would pay no less than 30 percent in income taxes, returning military veterans would get job placement help and members of Congress would be banned from insider stock trading.

Those are just a few of the proposals laid out by President Barack Obama Tuesday night during his annual State of the Union address, a sweeping address to Congress, the American people and the world.

He talked of tax incentives for companies that return manufacturing jobs to the United States, speaking directly to business owners when he said "Ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country, and your country will do everything we can to help you succeed."

He proposed creating a Trade Enforcement Unit to investigate "unfair trade practices in countries like China. There will be more inspections to prevent counterfeit or unsafe goods from crossing our borders."

He talked of extending tuition tax credits for college and increasing work-study jobs for students. He also threw down a challenge to colleges and universities: "If you can't stop tuition from going up, the funding you get from taxpayers will go down."

There were many more calls to action, of course, in the hour and five minute speech, from investments in clean energy to investigating financial crimes to giving more tools to teachers.

But the overarching theme, which he laid out at the beginning and came back to at the end, was an exhortation to Congress to work together for the good of the country, using the example the country's military.

"When you put on that uniform, it doesn't matter if you're black or white; Asian or Latino; conservative or liberal; rich or poor; gay or straight," he said. "When you're marching into battle, you look out for the person next to you, or the mission fails. When you're in the thick of the fight, you rise or fall as one unit, serving one Nation, leaving no one behind."

Of course, after the speech, the Republicans gave their rebuttal, voiced by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. And the pundits weighed in, sometimes even before the speech was over.

But what did you think? Did you give the State of the Union a thumbs up or down? Why? Or did you not even watch it?
