Second Dart Bus Launched Monday

A second bus will shorten the wait times for riders in Doylestown.

On Monday, a second Dart bus hit the streets of Doylestown, shortening wait times for riders who use the public transportation service.

Having two buses cuts the wait time between stops considerably and improves service dramatically, officials said in announcing the new service.

Adding a second bus back to the routes was one of the original requests when the local bus service was suspended back in December 2010.

Many Doylestown seniors and disabled residents use the bus to do their shopping and get around town. But when the service was cut two years ago, the wait times between stops made its use impractical for some.

The bus will serve the Giant, Weis, Acme, and Barn shopping centers; the senior living centers of Center Square Towers, Wesley Enhanced Living, Neshaminy Manor, and Grundy Hall; the Central Bucks Family YMCA, Doylestown Hospital, Delaware Valley College, the Michener Art Museum, the Mercer Museum, the Bucks County Free Library, the Bucks County Courthouse, the SEPTA train station, Lenape Valley Foundation, Doylestown Meadows and the Central Bucks Senior Center.

New schedules are available at all of these locations as well as on the buses.

The fare is $1 for each ride.

The Michener Art Museum and Mercer Museum, the Central Bucks Y, the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania (formerly the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission) and Wesley Enhanced Living have all used advertising opportunities by wrapping all or part of the buses.

Further advertising opportunities will be available after January 1, 2013. The County Theater has marketed the bus service with slides on screen prior to feature films.

An offshoot of Dart Bus Service has been the free Cultural Loop Shuttle which has operated on weekends since September 22. It connects the downtown and County Theater with the Michener Art Museum, Mercer Museum, Fonthill and Civil War Museum.

Officials said the addition of the second bus is the result of the hard work of the Dart Bus Committee, representing Central Bucks institutions and businesses. Funding was provided through the efforts of Sen. Chuck McIlhinny, Doylestown Borough and Township and the Doylestown Business and Community Alliance.
