No Welfare for Offenders Out of Megan's Law Compliance Under New Bill
The bill would require full compliance for offenders to receive public assistance.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives recently passed a bill that would withhold welfare benefits from non-compliant Megan’s Law offenders.
Megan’s Law requires those who have been convicted of sex crimes to register with local law enforcement officials, who in turn notify communities that a sex offender is living among them.
House Bill 1951 would amend the Public Welfare Code, passed in 1967. It would prohibit eligibility for those benefits from anyone on Megan’s List who is not in full compliance.

The bill was passed by the House on Feb. 5. It now moves to the state Senate for consideration.
