Generator Stolen in Sandy's Aftermath

Someone made off with one of Doylestown Borough's emergency generators Wednesday morning.

Someone somewhere is brewing coffee or running a TV or a hair dryer or a microwave on stolen electricity.

Yes, that's right. One of Doylestown Borough's generators was stolen early Wednesday morning, right out from under the traffic light it was powering on a critical road through Central Bucks County.

The generator was running the traffic signal at the intersection of North Street and Swamp Road (Rt. 313) in Doylestown. It was stolen sometime between 3:45 a.m. and 6:04 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Doylestown Police said.

"Someone cut the chain and took it," borough manager John Davis said. "A $1,500 generator stolen, leaving an important traffic signal unattended. It's pretty heinous, but we move on."

Davis said the generator had run out of gas and was between fill-ups. When borough workers arrived Wednesday morning to check on it, they found it gone.
