Primary Election Guide

What you need to know for today's election.

April 24 is Election Day in Pennsylvania. Candidates to consider include not just president but also U.S. senator, state attorney general, state auditor general and state treasurer.

State representative candidates also are on the ballot - no races in Central Bucks are contested.

Voters also will be asked to vote for their party's delegates to their national conventions. Nine Democrats are vying for nine delegate positions. On the Republican side, though, 13 candidates are vying for just four positions.

The Doylestown-based Tea Party group The Kitchen Table Patriots are trying to win enough votes for their candidates - Daniel McCabe, John Merritt, Anastasia Przybylaski and Ana Puig - while the Bucks County Republican party is backing Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolamo, Bucks County Commissioner Robert Loughery, party leader Pat Poprik, and state Rep. Bernie O'Neill.

In Pennsylvania, primary elections are closed, which means you must be registered as a Republican to cast a vote for the Republican candidate, or as a Democrat to vote for the Democratic candidate.

For the November 2012 presidential election, the new state law, , will go into effect, and voters will be required to show an acceptable form of current photo ID. Poll workers will ask voters for a photo ID in today's election, but voters will be allowed to vote even if they don't have one.
