Doylestown Interviews Human Relations Applicants

More interviews, and the final selections, will follow on Dec. 16.

Twelve applicants for Doylestown Borough's Human Relations Commission begin the interview process tonight in front of town leaders.

The borough's personnel committee will begin interviewing candidates tonight at a meeting at borough hall at 7 p.m.

The three-person committee consists of Don Berk, who is the chairman, and Dennis McCauley and Lou White. Other borough council members are expected to attend, as well.

Interviews will continue on Thursday Dec. 16; council members are then expected to discuss the applicants and select those they'd like to appoint to the commission.

The 12 applicants include borough residents Susan A. Gordon, Michael J. Loughran, Eric G. Marttila, Marlene Pray, Lisa Pretecrum, Nancy L. Reilly, Hayden Saunier, Doreen Stratton, Ronald L. Strouse. and W. R. Van Eysden.

Applicants who do not live in but work in the borough are attorney Andrew D. Cotlar, of Cotlar & Cotlar at 23 West Court Street and Patricia A. Markel, regional president for Team Capital Bank, 18 North Main Street.

Doylestown's elected leaders – eight Democrats and one Republican – voted unanimously on Aug. 16 to pass a town ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on several factors, including sexual orientation. They also created a Human Relations Commission to enforce the new ordinance.

Sixteen people originally applied for the commission. Four were disqualified because they did not live or work in the borough.
