Soil sampling at a local Superfund site will resume in mid-November but the excavation of contaminated soil has been pushed back to the spring, borough officials said Friday.
In September, the EPA announced it would begin excavating contaminated soils at the Chem Fab Superfund site, located at 300-360 North Broad Street. However, due to the government shutdown from Oct. 1 to 16, work was halted.
Borough Manager said he has been advised that soil sampling will start up again the week of Nov. 12. However, the excavation work will be further delayed.
Chem-Fab Corporation operated an electroplating and metal processing facility on that site from 1965 to 1994.
The government closed for more than two weeks earlier this month because congress failed to pass a continuing resolution.
