Teen Played Xbox Through Standoff

The CB West student hunkered down in his room as Sunday's standoff unfolded in his Doylestown neighborhood.

Sherrod Higginbotham threw on a bright yellow CB West Basketball t-shirt Sunday night, but he wasn't on his way to practice or a team event.

It was about 10:30 p.m., and Higginbotham, 17, was about to be "extracted" from his Doylestown Township home during the midst of a standoff with an armed gunman.

As police negotiators tried to convince suspect Richard Klementrovich to surrender, Higginbotham was one of at least three children and teens who were home alone in the Doylestown Lea neighborhood when it was locked down.

Higginbotham said he kept in touch with his grandmother, Roxane Taylor, and his mother, both of whom were outside the neighborhood when it was locked down.

The high school football player said he stayed in his room with his dog, with the blinds drawn, watching TV and playing Xbox most of the day.

As the standoff lengthened, and with police unsure how long it would continue, officials told families gathered at the Doylestown Township municipal building that they would go in and get the children and teens out.

Higginbotham said his football coach, who is a police officer, told him to put on a bright shirt and meet the police officers at the front door to be escorted from the neighborhood.
