Detours took motorists parallel to the roadway, along South Clinton Street and Hart Avenue, causing delays.

Businesses along that stretch of the roadway remained open, but motorists needed to get creative and used some of the side streets (Bridge Street and Hillside Avenue) to get around.

Police responded to the accident at 3:41 this morning, when a vehicle traveling south on Main Street struck a historic marker at 120 S. Main (near the Agricultural Works), jumped the curb, rolled on its side, sheared the utility pole off its base and came to rest in the southbound lane.

There was no mention of injuries in the report.

As of about 2 p.m. today, PECO crews were finishing their work, and crews from Verizon were then set to re-establish their lines.

PECO shut down power this morning to affected customers. A recorded message notified customers that there would be a temporary cessation of power between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. while crews worked to replace the equipment.
