Pilot Still in Critical Condition After Fiery Plane Crash

A New Hope man was severely burned when his experimental plane crashed in Doylestown Township on Saturday.

Pilot John M. Szabo remains in critical condition at Temple University Hospital following the fiery crash of his small experimental plane at Route 313 and the 611 bypass Saturday, according to WFMZ.

Szabo is 69.

Szabo, of New Hope, may have been trying to make an emergency landing on the highway when his plane got tangled in power lines and caught fire.

A man and his daughter who saw the crash and stopped to help told the Intelligencer they saw Szabo engulfed in flames.

Patch reader Lee Swanson posted the following comment on a story about the plane crash:

Szabo's plane crashed after taking off from Doylestown Airport, which hosted an open house Saturday.

The single-engine plane known as a "cricket" was home built, according to Philly.com.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
