Officer Shot, Woman Found Dead

Two officers sustained minor injuries while pursing a suspect who may also be linked to the death of a woman in Buckingham.

UPDATE: 2:05 a.m.

The woman found dead at a house in the 3400 block of Church School Rd., Buckingham Township, is believed to be the mother-in-law of the suspect sought in the police shooting.

The suspect is believed to be active miliary and may be armed with an assault rifle, according to emergency reports. He may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, the unconfirmed reports said.

Police are now reportedly searching the homes of other family members in New Britain and Quakertown.

UPDATE: 1 a.m.

According to emergency reports, a juvenile was dropped off at a hospital emergency room who told officials "grandmom went to heaven."

Officials investigating the child's story reportedly found a woman dead at a home in the 3400 block of Church School Road in Buckingham.

Emergency reports indicate police believe the woman may be the mother of the suspect they are seeking from the police shooting incident.

Bucks County's north/central SWAT team reportedly is being called out and will be staging from Doylestown Hospital.

 

12:32 a.m.

One police officer has been shot in an incident near Doylestown as Hurricane Irene continued pounding Bucks County early Sunday morning.

A second officer had glass blown into his eyes from a window shattered by bullets during the exchange of gunfire.

Neither injury was believed to be life-threatening. The officer who was shot reportedly drove himself to the hospital.

The incident began shortly after midnight, according to emergency services reports. Police officers were chasing a black Dodge pickup with Virginia license plates, wanted for an incident initially reported as being in Hilltown Township.

An occupant in the truck reportedly fired shots at police in the 100 block of W. Swamp Road. One of the officers was struck but was able to drive himself to Doylestown Hospital, according to emergency reports.

A second officer was injured when bullets shattered a car window and glass was blown into his eyes.

The truck reportedly fled the scene. It was last seen heading southbound on Rt. 611. Officers believed the driver may have exited at Broad Street or Rt. 202.

Police were continuing to search the area even as Irene lashed Central Bucks with wind-driven sheets of rain.

Witnesses saw three police cars and flares set up near Rt. 611 and the 313 exit around 12:30 a.m.
