Lightning Strikes Two Homes, 30K Without Power After Severe Overnight Storms

Heavy thunderstorms overnight caused damage to local homes and widespread power outages throughout Doylestown and Buckingham.

A chimney on Fox Glove Court in Doylestown was struck by lightning around 3 a.m., county emergency dispatchers told NBC 10 news. The chimney exploded due to the lightning and no injuries were reported.

It wasn’t the only local incident related to last night’s severe thunderstorms. A home in Chalfont caught fire after being struck by lightning, NBC 10 reported.

The overnight storm caused widespread power outages in Bucks County. As of 8:30 a.m., PECO is reporting that more than 30,800 customers throughout the county are without power.

More than 4,100 of those customers are in Doylestown Township and more than 3,700 are in the borough. More than 3,800 in Buckingham Township are without power.

More than 2,800 in Northampton, nearly 1,000 in Newtown Township and almost 1,400 in Wrightstown are without power. 

Update: As of 11:15 a.m. Thursday, PECO reports that there are less than 500 customers in Bucks County without power. Click here to visit the outage map for details.
