Grocery Theft Attempted at Acme, Police Say

Doylestown Borough Police say a woman tried to leave the store with a cart full of groceries without paying for them.

A woman is facing theft charges after police say she tried to leave a Doylestown grocery store without paying for the contents of the cart.

Doylestown Borough Police say she tried to remove several bags of groceries from Acme without attempting to pay for the items. The incident occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at about 7:05 p.m., according to the police report.

The items were valued at $164.13, police said.

Doylestown Borough Police Chief Jim Donnelly said that the items were recovered.

"The manager stopped her before she could leave," Donnelly said.

After reviewing the store's video surveillance tapes, Donnelly said police officers believe the woman tried the same thing on the two previous Wednesdays, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6.
