Gold Ingot Stolen From Doylestown Shop

A Doylestown man has been charged with theft after police say he stole from a local gold-buying shop.

Nicholas Stickel, 21, Winterberry Drive, Doylestown, has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property, according to court records.

According to Doylestown Borough Police, Stickel went to the Doylestown Gold Exchange on Friday, Feb. 1, to sell something. He submitted identification, as required, police chief Jim Donnelly said.

"During the transaction, the clerk got distracted," Donnelly said. "Later, he realized a gold bar that had been on display on the counter was missing."

The gold bar weighed about 5 grams and was worth about $295, according to the police report.

Police reviewed the store's videotape footage and identified Stickel as the suspect, Donnelly said.

A Doylestown Borough detective called Stickel and asked him to come in to the police department. When he came in the following Monday, he was arrested, Donnelly said.

According to court records, a preliminary hearing has been set for March 22 in the district justice office of Mark Douple.
