Ed Rendell: I Was Invited on Plane that Crashed in Mass.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said he was invited on the flight that crashed in Massachusetts Saturday, killing Philadelphia Inquirer co-owner Lewis Katz and six others. 

According to an AP report, Katz invited Rendell to travel on his private plane to an event at historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's home in Massachusetts. Rendell declined due to another obligation, he told the AP.

Katz was one of seven people killed when his private plane crashed on takeoff from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass. Katz, a 72-year-old business mogul, was returning home to New Jersey when the plane crashed at around 9:40 p.m.

Rendell told the AP he had flown with Katz more than two dozen times, including a recent trip to Los Angeles.

National Transportation Safety Board Officials are handling the investigation into what caused the crash.
