Driver in Buckingham Crash Faces Charges

Police said the driver fled the scene and turned himself in later.

Police said charges will be filed against a driver who lost control of his car on Cold Spring Creamery Road recently, hitting an electric pole and knocking out power to nearby homes.

Buckingham Township Police said the driver, Giuseppe Mannino, 19, crashed his Audi after 4 a.m. Saturday, then fled the scene.

Mannino turned himself in to police about 19 hours later, around 11:30 p.m., police Sgt. J.R. Landis said.

The crash happened on Cold Spring Creamery Road just north of Charter Club Drive, near the Doylestown Airport, Landis said.

Police said Mannino's Audi rolled two or three times before it hit a PECO pole.

"This was a very, very serious crash," Landis said.

Despite the severity of the crash, Mannino was able to flee the scene. Landis said Buckingham police tracked down his relatives and his cell phone number, but he remained in hiding all day.

When he turned himself in later that night, police said Mannino was "banged up and bruised" but not seriously injured.

He now faces "a bunch of traffic violations," Landis said.

PECO spokeswoman Liz Williamson said the crash brought the wires down off the pole, cutting service to about 102 customers.

Power went out at 4:37 a.m., according to PECO's records. It was only out for a short time, though, and was restored by 5:14 a.m.
