Fake Sex Abuse Claims Could Get Doylestown Man 20 Years

Former Lansdale Catholic lacrosse coach Timothy Udinski faces up to 20 years in prison, after pleading no contest Friday to multiple stalking and harassment charges in false Lansdale Catholic sexual abuse claims.

A former Lansdale Catholic lacrosse coach will be convicted of making false molestation accusations via anonymous emails against school coaches, after he pleaded no contest to the charges on Friday in Montgomery County court.

Timothy Adam Udinski, 44, of Old Dublin Pike, Doylestown, faces more than 20 years in prison, according to The Pottstown Mercury. Udinski pleaded no contest to multiple counts of stalking and harassment of school officials between October 2011 and May 2012, according to the article.

Udinski’s no contest plea is not admission of guilt, but it is admission that there is enough evidence to convict him at trial of the crimes.

Udinski is accused of four counts of misdemeanor stalking that repeatedly caused fear and two counts of misdemeanor harassment by threatening language through anonymous emails, according to court documents.

Authorities allege Udinski sent seven anonymous emails claiming sexual abuse at the school by coaches, including retired coach Jim Algeo.

During a time of sexual abuse upheaval in the ranks of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, police and Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman allege Udinski sent seven emails containing false claims of sexual abuse to the Archdiocese between October 19, 2011 and May 31, 2012.

In these emails, he allegedly deliberately and falsely claimed that both the Lansdale Catholic football and lacrosse coaches were engaged in sexual solicitation of players on their respective teams, according to Ferman.

Udinski, who is president of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association, also accused Lansdale Catholic Principal Timothy Quinn of failing to take any action regarding the alleged misconduct.

Quinn unexpectedly announced his retirement as principal in July.

Udinski was fired from Lansdale Catholic on October 19, 2011. Prior to his firing, the Archdiocese received an anonymous email alleging that head football coach Jim Algeo had sexually solicited a player, according to Ferman.

The email included an accusation that Quinn, a former Lansdale Catholic football player, had a history of ignoring any complaints about Algeo.

Udinski was the former head lacrosse coach at Lansdale Catholic High School.  During his tenure at the school, Udinski was the target of unfounded accusations.  While coaching the 2011 lacrosse season, Lansdale Catholic relieved Udinski of his duties after he engaged in repeated heated arguments with players and staff, according to Ferman. Quinn reported that Udinski was extremely upset about his firing.

On March 12 and March 14, 2012 the Archdiocese received two anonymous emails complaining that Lansdale Catholic’s head lacrosse coach had been involved in a sexual assault while attending Lehigh University, according to a press release.

On March 15, 2012, the Archdiocese received an anonymous email threatening to inform the media about the allegations involving the lacrosse coach. This email was followed by numerous anonymous emails on March 22, to the Archdiocese and local media outlets concerning wrongdoing at Lansdale Catholic High School, according to Ferman.

On May 9, 2012, the Archdiocese received another anonymous email stating that the coach sexually assaulted a male lacrosse player at Lansdale Catholic, according to the release. He was also accused of inviting the player to the shore and offering him beer, according to the release.

The complaint included another accusation that Quinn was ignoring the complaints.

On May 31, 2012, another anonymous email was sent to the Archdiocese again referencing the lacrosse coach attempting to lure his players to the shore to engage in sexual activity, according to the release. Quinn was accused of covering up the incident. The email demanded Quinn’s resignation and jail time for the coach, according to the release.

The Archdiocese notified Montgomery County Law Enforcement officials of the allegations.

The county Detective Bureau took over an investigation on the allegations, requiring 12 detectives and staff members to investigate the repeated, anonymous reports of sexual abuse against two high school coaches, according to the release.

Detectives devoted in excess of 184 hours to investigating the accusations against the coaches, according to Ferman in the release.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers interviewed 97 people and executed 10 court orders and search warrants.

At the conclusion of the investigation, detectives and prosecutors concluded that the allegations against both coaches were false and unfounded, according to Ferman.

The estimated cost to Montgomery County taxpayers to investigate these multiple false reports was over $8,250.

"The cost to the men subjected to the false accusations is impossible to measure," stated the release.

Detectives developed Udinski as the subject who sent out the anonymous emails to the Archdiocese.

On June 21, detectives visited Udinski's home to interview him about the emails, according to the release.

Udinski told police that all the complaints were untrue and he admitted to sending the seven anonymous emails, according to Ferman.

"He admitted he specifically targeted the Lansdale Catholic football coach and lacrosse coach. Udinski told detectives that he made these false reports because, 'I was mad at the school for the way I was treated. I was just furious,'" according to the release.

Udinski will be prosecuted by the Captain of the Major Crimes Team and Assistant District Attorney Jesse S. King.

Udinski is a Central Bucks West graduate and one of the founders of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel CYO lacrosse. He was affiliated with the Select Club lacrosse program in Bucks County.
