Coming Soon: 1 Million Blooming Daffodils

After a cold and snowy winter, many of us are ready for spring to bloom.  And when we think of spring in Bucks County, it conjures up images of blooming golden daffodils thanks to the Bucks Beautiful "Bulbs for Bucks" program.

The “Bulbs for Bucks” program was the inspiration of Bucks Beautiful board member Chuck Gale of Gale Nurseries. The goal of this program is to beautify Bucks County along the canals, highways, byways and throughout small towns and communities with the first splendor of spring blooming Daffodils!

The First Phase of "Bulbs for Bucks" debuted in the fall of 2010, when 40,000 daffodil bulbs were planted along the Route 611 Bypass near Doylestown. During phase II in 2011, called Color on the Canal, 300,000 daffodil bulbs were planted from Bristol to Riegelsville along the towpath of the Delaware Canal State Park. In 2012, phase III was called Color on the Parkway where170,000 daffodil bulbs were planted along the new Route 202 Parkway spanning a 9 mile stretch of land from Doylestown to Montgomeryville. And last year in 2013 our Phase IV planting was called Color our Towns, and consisted of 250,000 bulbs planted within Newtown, Perkasie, and Bensalem. This year we enter Phase V called Color Bucks County, and your contribution will help us plant the remaining 250,000 bulbs to reach 1 million daffodils.

“People are ecstatic about the daffodils. Thank you!!”

“Hello, Bucks Beautiful! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the daffodil EXPLOSION in the medial strips in New Hope! WOW! I repeat. WOW! It's terrific.”

“I’m a resident of Washington Crossing and lately, whenever I drive by Taylorsville Road along the canal to get on to I-95, I’d find myself feeling a little happier, thanks to the welcome signs of spring from the bright yellow and white daffodils, some lined up nicely along the curbs while others stretched out in graceful artistic curves. I’ve been wondering who I should thank for this beautiful gift, and this morning I learned from the Courier Times that Bucks Beautiful program is instrumental in bringing this burst of happy color to our neighborhood. I would like to express my gratitude to the program administrators, organizers and volunteers. Your hard work added intangible yet immeasurable value to our quality of life and boosted community pride. Thank you very much.”

“I am so glad to now know who is responsible for the gorgeous daffodils on the ramps to Yardley's Interstate 95. I live near there and have been enjoying them for several weeks now. Yesterday was up past New Hope and saw them near the Rte. 202 intersection. They are just lovely and I would like to say thank you, thank you!”

“Absolutely beautiful......enjoying the daffodils, along with a lot of other people along the canal and the Park and Ride area in Yardley. Awesome!!!!!!.”

“The daffodils make an immense visual impact by 95 and Taylorsville Road, absolutely magnificent.”
