BCAT program on human trafficking draws 50

Bucks Coalition Against Trafficking (BCAT) celebrated its one-year anniversary by hosting a community information session on Wednesday evening, January 8, at the Bucks County Library in Doylestown.

Earlier in the day, the group accepted a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners naming January 8 Human Trafficking Awareness Day in support of BCAT’s mission to eradicate human trafficking within our communities and enhance human dignity for all.

More than 50 people attended the informative session at the library, including local lawmakers.

January was National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The local nonprofit advocacy group hopes to spread awareness about the incidences of human trafficking and educate the community so that individuals can fight to end modern-day slavery.

Jen Horowitz, Women’s Way Director of Public Policy, shared details regarding advocacy efforts, legislation and public policy in our region.

Marguerite Quinn, who represents the 145th congressional district in Harrisburg, shared insights on the legislative process and how to affect legislation at the state level. Also present was State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf, who introduced recently passed legislation to fight human trafficking (SB 75).
