Frank Priolo, 90, Former Linden Elementary Principal

Frank was a volunteer for Doylestown Hospital, Meals on Wheels of Central Bucks and Central Bucks Senior Center.

Francis (Frank) Priolo of Doylestown passed away at his residence on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Born in Bethlehem, PA he was the son of the late Luigi and Maria Priolo.

Frank graduated in 1942 from Liberty High School, Bethlehem, PA and worked in the Bethlehem Steel Company prior to entering the US Coast Guard during World War II. He served in the continental US and as Radioman Petty Officer Second Class in the South Pacific on board ship for the 253rd Fighter Squadron seeing combat in New Guinea, the Philippine Islands and Borneo. At the end of the War he was discharged in 1945.

He graduated from Moravian College in 1950 and served in the US Navy during the Korean War from August, 1950 to November, 1951. Frank received his Bachelor Degree and Elementary Certification from Kutztown University and his Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Lehigh University. He was employed by the Bethlehem School District as an elementary school teacher from 1952 to 1954 and later the Neshaminy School District in Langhorne from 1954 to 1958.

Frank was employed as Supervising Principal of the Warrington Township School District from 1958 to 1966 for Florence Titus Elementary School and John Barclay Elementary School. At a ceremony on December 12, 1976, in the Chapel of Four Chaplains, Phila., PA, he was inducted as a member of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor.

From 1966 to 1987 Frank served as elementary school principal of John Barclay Elementary School and later the Linden Elementary School of the Central Bucks School District. Upon retirement in 1987, he traveled extensively with his wife, Rena, throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico and countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. He was a lifelong member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and PASA Retired.

Frank was a volunteer in the local community with Doylestown Hospital, Meals on Wheels of Central Bucks, Central Bucks Senior Center and taught the Driver Safety Program locally for AARP of which he was a member. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Doylestown Nature Club.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rena, two sons, Richard F. Priolo and wife SunHwa of Doylestown, and Martin Priolo and wife Mary of Pembroke, NH, grandfather of Chantel A. Priolo, two step-granddaughters, Lisa Bidwell and Sue DePasque. He is survived by a sister and was the youngest of 9 children.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown on Tuesday, May 6th at 11 am. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to mass at church.

Interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Frank's memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or Meals on Wheels of Central Bucks, 252 Belmont Avenue, Doylestown, PA 18901.
