The Y's newest fitness trainer gives you quick and easy advice to surviving your Fourth of July picnic.

As Marketing Communications Coordinator, I'm posting blogs and articles of interest on behalf of Central Bucks Family YMCA by me and others at the Y. This is a great one from one of our newest trainers, just in time for Fourth of July picnics and barbeques.

It’s that time of year for cook-outs and pool parties. When celebrating the Fourth of July, prepare to make the right food choices BEFORE arriving to the party.  Knowing that you will make a choice ahead of time eliminates the need to see what you are craving.

For instance, consider having a turkey burger with fresh veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions—all without the roll. Go for the grilled veggies instead of the pasta salad.

If you have your heart set on the pasta or potato salad, try just adding a small amount to your plate. Sometimes, just having a taste will satisfy that craving without derailing your goals.
